We’ve been told before we have an eclectic selection at Ford General. And we do believe it to be true. We think it’s unique that we are able to offer menswear from so many different places and, for so many different occasions.
When it comes to buying a suit, an occasion usually comes to mind. A wedding, a graduation, an anniversary, a big interview. Whatever it may be, there is an intention that goes along with wanting to look and feel your best for these moments.
Although, at Ford General we are firm believers an occasion is never needed.
What’s stopping you from wearing a full suit to the grocery store on a Friday night? Perhaps nothing! But, perhaps it’s the attention that comes with dressing up. Because it’s true, when you dress your best, people do notice. We don’t buy into the notion that a reason or occasion needs to exist in order to wear a suit. We often say the reason will find you once you’re wearing the suit. Random conservations or introductions seem more likely when a blazer is styled with denim on a random Wednesday. Plus, we find the fun of wearing a suit to be sufficient occasion enough.
We’ve pulled together a bunch of suiting options for you to consider for your next outing. From formal, to casual, workwear, to summer linen. We’ve got something for everyone, and every occasion (or non-occasion).
Ring Jacket:
New to us this season, Ring Jacket is methodical and laser focused on fit. We take pride in being one of the few North American retailers of this sophisticated made in Japan collection. The company was founded in 1954 and blends British, American and Italian sensibilities into their suits. We think for those of our clients seeking a high quality traditional suit, this season we’ve supplied an outstanding option with this historic Japanese producer.
Universal Works:
Universal Works from Nottingham England gives us a more oversized contemporary take on suits which is perfect for today’s in between notion of work and play.
Hansen:
Hansen Garments, from Copenhagen Denmark gives us both workwear suits, and linen suiting perfect for a summer wedding. Ford General has stocked Hansen for five continuous years or ten seasons. Their fabric selection and tailoring is typical of Danish design quality. This season a favorite is the Keld wide leg work pant in an elevated fabric appropriate for suiting. The Keld pairs equally well with the matching Josuf workwear sport coat in the same beige herringbone fabric as it does with a t-shirt on the weekend.
Kardo:
Crafted in India using various traditional weaving techniques, Ford General has been stocking Kardo for a number of seasons. For Spring 2026 we have a yarn dyed twill navy suit. The fabric is natural dyed by Udyog Bharti, a collective supporting over 2,000 weaving families which practice sustainable textile production. The fit is quite relaxed, which we wanted for Chicago, envisioning warm summer moments which call for unique attire. Having suiting from Europe, Japan, & India enables us to curate an eclectic suiting department; something we really consider our specialty.
